Let's Stop Failing Our Muslim Youth
There are more than 100,000 Muslims living in the Greater Columbus area, and more than 60,000 live in the heart of Columbus. They come from diverse backgrounds, culturally and financially. As a result, masjids and musallahs have popped up all over the city catering to the growing Muslim population. More than 10 public chartered schools have a majority Muslim student population, in the Greater Columbus area, and that number is continuing to grow.
To cater specifically to the Muslim youth, organizations around Columbus have started after-school and weekend programs to address issues particularly in the socioeconomically under-served communities... and they're doing really AWESOME work! There is New Hope Foundation, which runs basketball and soccer camps for inner-city Muslim youth, and Somali Muslim Basketball League, which runs tournaments throughout the year for Muslim youth in Columbus and invites teams throughout the nation. Other youth organizations in the area are MAS-Youth Columbus, Friends of Youth Organization, Muslim Youth Project USA, Masjid Salama Youth, and Masjid Huda Youth.
One common challenge they all face is not having a place where they can call a home, somewhere where they know they can always go to do their programs. Rather than renting gyms from different places or being forced to cancel programs because a masjid or community center has another conflicting event, they need a place that is dedicated for them. We now have the capacity to help solve their problems!
IFCO has dedicated 3.5 acres of land in the heart of the Columbus Muslim population for Muslim youth organizations. We have completed the architectural designs, reviewed the documents with engineers, received approval from the City of Columbus to build a 21,000 square foot Muslim Community Youth Center (MCYC), and...
The only thing that remains is to raise the funds to start construction...
That's where we need your help in...
Building A Home For Muslim Youth Organizations In Columbus!
We're building a home for our Muslim youth organizations...
To create lasting personal and social change...
To strengthen our community...
To bring Muslim youth together...
To build character...
To enable those who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible Muslims...
To build Muslim youth of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
There’s a reason why this project is unique!
This will be the headquarters for all Muslim youth in Columbus. MCYC will be located near the busiest area of the Columbus Muslim community, close to Columbus International Airport. Not only that, 90% of our entire Columbus community is within 30 minutes of our facility.
It will be a stand-alone facility, not physically attached to any masjid, to allow our youth to keep the focus on the youth center. Day-to-day operations will be managed by Muslim Youth of Central Ohio (MYCO), with a full-time staff, including a youth director.
Our facility has...
1 5,000 SQ. FT. multipurpose room
1 commercial-grade, professional kitchen
1 NCAA compliant basketball court
2 full-size basketball courts
2 co-workspace offices, and…
THERE’S PLENTY OF ROOM FOR ADDING A SWIMMING POOL, AUDITORIUM, AND CLASSROOMS!
All together this is is a $2.5 Million project!
We'd love if you could come join us in breaking this challenge.
Building MCYC Rocks!
Ahmed Omar, VP of New Hope Foundation
“It’s so hard to find resources. We’re constantly renting gyms from different places, or we’re not getting other resources we need to help our kids… not finding one hub to bring these kids consistently… MCYC is definitely going to help New Hope Foundation… It’s going to be one hub where we can bring all of our programs... It’s like a safe haven for all the Muslim youth to go to… It’s one place that all the Muslims can come.”
Bashir Awl, President of New Hope Foundation
“With this project… we can address a lot more (youth) issues that we can’t in other institutions in our community.”
We're already winning national support!
Dr. Altaf Husain, VP of ISNA
“If we had to do things differently, in terms of the last 20 to 30 years, the idea would have been exactly this. It would have been to start with the youth center and to promote an attachment to the Muslim community.”
Sh. Abdul Nasir Jangda, Founder and Director of Qalam Institute
“Everywhere that we go, the biggest need and demand is ‘How are we going to protect the eman of our young people of our community?’ They need a place where they can belong. They need a place where they can come and socialize in an Islamically healthy environment. And mashAllah, MCYC is making a great effort on that part.”
